Plowboys BBQ Yardbird Rub is a savory rub with a touch of sweetness, followed by just a little heat on the back of the tongue. The bottle says it best: "Created for chicken, but made for pork." It comes from Todd Johns and Randy Hinck of the Pork Pullin' Plowboys, who won the 2009 American Royal Invitational over 123 past grand champions. It was built for competition BBQ, and it's just as good in the backyard.
Apply an even coat over a light binder before smoking or grilling. On chicken, season under and over the skin. For ribs, use it alone or as a base under a sweeter rub like Heath Riles Honey Rub.
Available in a shaker or a 5 lb bag.
