Pork Roll Sandwiches: Taste of New Jersey

Pork roll sandwiches using Taylor Ham is a New Jersey staple. This salty, thin-sliced ham is irresistibly delectable, though not common in other parts of the country. One of our favorite recipes is a pork roll sandwich thrown on the grill. It’s easy, fast, and even tastier than you can imagine.

Ingredients

The amount you use is up to the size of your party and your taste preferences. We recommend 3-4 slices of pork roll per sandwich for a meaty, salty bite.

Directions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Slice the pork roll to approximately ¼ inch slices, if not already pre-cut. Make sure to make slits on one side to prevent curling. We recommend cutting a small chunk out of the side, or 3 small cuts around the edges.
  3. Cut English muffins in half. Slice cheddar cheese.
  4. Most pork roll comes pre-cooked, so you just need to heat it and add some delicious smoky flavor with the grill. This means you only need to grill it for a few minutes.
  5. While grilling the pork roll, put the English muffins face down on the grill. Like the pork roll, these should only be on the grill a short while, to avoid burning.
  6. Right before taking the pork roll off the grill, put the cheddar cheese on top. Close the lid to help melt the cheese onto the ham. This shouldn’t take more than one minute.
  7. Remove everything. Butter the English muffins while still hot.
  8. Put the cheesy pork roll (a few slices for a meatier sandwich) on the English muffin.
  9. Slather on your favorite BBQ sauce and enjoy!
